Yesterday was my writing class, and my focus was argumentative essay. To give a general layout of what is argumentative essay, the issues that I asked at first were simple or better known in debate as "The banana round". Question such as "Should uniform be abolished?" "Banana is King of all fruits" & "Women make better teachers", it was fun seeing the points that were shared especially when it comes to women vs men. Then I gave them a current trending topic. "PTPTN should be abolished" These were the answers that I received in class;
Agree
a) Education should be made free for all.
b) Since we are going to be paying taxes when we work, we are giving back to the government.
c) PTPTN is generated through our parents' income tax.
d) All of services here have tax, we are being taxed for a lot of things. That alone generate income.
Disagree
a) Don't abolished PTPTN just its interest. We should only pay back what has being lend to us.
b) PTPTN is providing opportunities for lower income family to further studies in higher institutions.
c) Students need to be competitive in achieving better grades for better employment.
d) The higher institutions especially private are milking the money given from PTPTN to the students.
It was supposed to be a writing class, but they end up debating. However thank God for the existence of the word HOMEWORK. (Hehehe)

I like it when they are exposed to all these issues. It makes them think outside of the box.
And at least they can start to learn to know their right. (",)
