Eh???

"The difference between what the most and the least learned people know is inexpressibly trivial in relation to that which is unknown"
(Albert Einstein)

A Malaysian proudly said in front of two foreigners that Malaysians can't speak proper English because they are not native speaker. This was used to justify one part of a software I am currently testing, when I inquire the difference respond between a statement and a question. The software wrongly indicate a statement as a question, when clearly the intonation doesn't concur with it.

I don't know how to perceive the answer and that is not something I prefer to used when explaining to my adult students who will follow the program. Through  out the training, most of my questions in relations to the language discrepancies in the software, were answered repeatedly "You are not a native speaker, don't expect to be as such". And all were answered by a Malaysian that is so busy promoting the software, whereas the person responsible in designing it, the two foreigners, prefer to be off hand. I am not inquiring on how to sound like a "mat salleh" all I wanted to know was the proper and correct explanation, the mechanics of the language itself.

Malaysians looking down on other Malaysians, what else is new.

But I am proud to be an English speaking Malaysian, being educate locally lagi... (",)

Does it mean that if you are not a native speaker, you instantaneously and most definitely suck? How about the examples on Failbook (http://failbook.failblog.org/) about the atrocious abuse of English by its native speakers?

Do. Not. Compute.

That was what the lady assume. For me that is BS, for you to be good in the lang. has nothing to do with where you were born, it's how you used the lang. itself.

I disagree with her in so many terms, her last resort was to call my boss.

Heh. Sounds like this girl in primary school I once knew. I got into an argument with and I out-argued her. She fled, and came back with her mother in tow so that her mother would scold me.

My retaliation? I told all my friends not to talk to her; if they say something wrong to her, she'll call her mother. I think Enid Blyton called it being sent to Coventry, yes?

And none of us spoke to her for a good three weeks or so. The little brat that I was (and still am) enjoyed her utter misery at being shunned.

I am a bad, bad person since way back then. XD

Hahahaha....u do know how to put up a good fight don't you, and even to win it.

Kinda geram with the lady, if she said that she doesn't know the answer and let us together find the proper explanation best gak, nie call my boss, and my boss personally called me.
